In southern Manitoba, urban Indigenous people encounter challenges accessing culturally appropriate spaces for sports and recreation. Urban Indigenous people may not always feel at ease in mainstream recreational settings, so the MASRC aims to provide a welcoming environment that honours Indigenous traditions, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment to engage in sports and recreation.

Continue below for a description of our current Urban Wellness programs.

Indigenous Women & Girls Run

Every year, the MASRC hosts the Indigenous Women & Girls Run in Kildonan Park, Winnipeg to promote holistic wellness for Indigenous women and girls and raise funds to directly support programs for Indigenous women and girls.

MASRC Urban Bike Program (Winnipeg)

Through this program, the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council provides urban Indigenous youth from rural and remote communities now living in Winnipeg for employment or education opportunities with reliable transportation. The bikes are free, and include a fitted helmet and bike lock at no extra cost.

North End Sports Programs (Winnipeg)

Through the MASRC, youth living in and around the North End and Central areas of Winnipeg are able to participate in organized hockey, softball, and basketball at a low cost. To date, over 1000 youth have participated in one of our North End Sports Programs.
