October 2, 1942 - February 1, 2021
On Monday, February 1, 2021, a special Angel went home to be with the Lord, with his wife and children by his side, Barry passed away at the age of 78, at the Percy E. Moore Hospital.
Survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Freda; children, Shari (Ryan), Desmond (Dawn), and Dale (Jacinta); grandchildren, Parker, Skyler, Logan, Emma, Edward, Kassidy, and his baby Bethany. Predeceased by his parents, Agnes and Archie; brothers, Andrew and Len; sisters, Mary and Bertha; godchild Adam Stranger, and niece Amber Bear.
After leaving Peguis he went to residential school in Portage. In the summer months he enjoyed working and staying with his special family Mabel and Roy Woods in Carmen. Barry and Freda eventually moved to Hay River, N.W.T., working for Freshwater Fisheries, then moved to Pine Point, N.W.T. to work at the Cominco Mines.
In 1981 they decided to move home to Peguis. There he did plumbing for Peguis First Nation and started farming. He was devoted to the church, so much so, that when the Elders asked him to be their minister he did not hesitate to do so. In 1992 he was ordained a deacon and the next year was ordained a Priest. Barry loved serving the Creator and helping His people as much as he could. He was a member of Rupertsland Indigenous Council. He also sat on the Diocesan Council for the Anglican Church.
For the past 10 years he also served as a community Fund Trustee for the Peguis Treaty Land Entitlement. In 2016 Barry was forced to retire his service to the church, due to his illness. Although he continued to work whenever he was able.
Wake service will be on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. No viewing. Both will be held at the St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Peguis, Manitoba. Reverend Godfree Mawijjie and Bishop Geoff Woodcroft officiating.
The family would like to thank Peguis First Nation; doctors, Bueti, Gill and Silha; to Dialysis Unit at H.S.C., Selkirk, and Ashern, and to the staff at Percy E. Moore Hospital for their wonderful care given to Barry in his last days. To everyone for their thoughts and prayers and to those who donated food for our family, thank you all.
