Parker Apetagon, of Norway House Cree Nation, was a bright, funny, and outgoing young man whose spirit shone brightly both on and off the court. Known for his infectious smile and unwavering positivity, Parker excelled in many sports, particularly volleyball and badminton. His dedication and talent earned him a bronze medal with the U16 volleyball team at the 2017 North American Indigenous Games in Toronto, as well as provincial honours in badminton while representing HBOIERC.
Parker was one of only two 13-year-olds to earn a spot on the NAIG team, a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and exceptional teamwork. He was a source of inspiration to his peers, demonstrating that age is just a number when passion and commitment are present.
Even in the face of his battle with cancer, Parker never lost his smile. His bravery during treatments was a profound example of strength, and his kind spirit touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. Friends and family will forever remember his ability to light up a room and uplift those around him, even in the toughest of times.
In honour of his legacy, the HBOIERC Huskies have retired his jersey, #10, as a lasting tribute to a young athlete who left an indelible mark on our community. Additionally, a badminton tournament is held every year in Norway House, celebrating Parker's passion for the sport and keeping his memory alive.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his parents, Marty and Shavonne, his family in Norway House, and the many friends he made across the province. Parker's spirit will continue to inspire us all, reminding us to cherish every moment, support one another, and face challenges with courage and joy.
