Join us in supporting a powerful and necessary initiative, led by NAIG alumni Lt. Larissa Bear: "Reclaiming Our Strength".

Larissa will be running from Portage la Prairie to Winnipeg along the Trans-Canada highway, starting June 17th and ending on the 21st. Through this endeavour, Larissa aims to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, Two Spirit, Transgender, and Gender Diverse people (MMIWG2S+) by acknowledging their resilience, and recognize their invaluable contributions to our communities. Moreover, it's about healing residential school survivors, an essential step towards collective healing.

But that's not all. This initiative also works towards empowering Indigenous youth, ensuring a brighter future built on cultural pride and self-determination. This holistic approach encompasses acknowledging past injustices while envisioning a more equitable future.

The proceeds raised from Larissa's run will go directly towards supporting residential school survivors through the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, and towards supporting Indigenous athletes at NAIG 2027 through the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council (MASRC).

Your donations can make a significant impact. You can contribute via:

  • Cheque to Manitoba Aboriginal Sports & Recreation Council (MASRC)
  • E-transfer to rhonda.bernabe@masrc.com (please include "Reclaiming Our Strength" in the memo line).

Receipts are available, however charitable tax receipts are not currently available at this time.

Larissa shares that "sports have played a significant role in transforming my life, and I truly believe that if it wasn't for my involvement in sports, particularly through events like NAIG (Native American Indigenous Games), I wouldn't have had the same sense of purpose and direction. It has given me the confidence and belief that I can make something meaningful out of my life. That's why I feel compelled to give back and support other kids, so they can have the same opportunities and be in a better position to succeed."

Let's come together and contribute to "Reclaiming Our Strength", honouring MMIWG2S+, healing residential school survivors, and empowering youth.
