Today, we recognize Aboriginal Justice Awareness Day, a day rooted in the need to address the systemic injustices faced by Indigenous peoples, particularly in response to the over-representation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system.
This day serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for equitable treatment, cultural understanding, and restorative justice practices. It calls us to reflect on the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization and to honor the voices of those who have fought for justice and reconciliation.
Let us commit to educating ourselves and our communities about these issues, and work together toward meaningful change that respects the rights and dignity of all Indigenous peoples.
