International Day of the Worlds Indigenous People

Today, August 9th, is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous people, and specifically Indigenous women, empower and strengthen their communities.

Manitoba is home to the Ojibway, Oji-Cree, Cree, Dakota, Dene, and serves as the birthplace of the Métis nation.

Article 24 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples recognizes the right of indigenous peoples to their traditional medicines, to maintain their health practices and to access social and health services without discrimination.
