Sport Development Program Leader
We are hiring two (2) full-time Sport Development Program Leaders!
Position Description:
The Sport Development Program Leaders will support community sports and recreation programming for Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) communities in Manitoba. Their goal is to enhance employability and education rates, improve health, and reduce at-risk behavior through sport and recreation.
Program Leaders will facilitate and mentor various sports and recreation activities, traveling to communities within Manitoba 1-2 times per month for day and overnight trips. They will assist in creating and managing sports programs, collaborating with First Nations, Métis communities, Inuit organizations, Provincial Sports Organizations (PSOs), and local groups. Monthly reporting will also be part of their responsibilities.
Work Schedule:
The first Program Leader will work 35 hours per week, Tuesday to Saturday, with Sundays and Mondays off. Some weekends and evenings may be required.
The second Program Leader will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with Saturdays and Sundays off. Some weekends and evenings may be required.
Both positions are based out of Winnipeg and require availability to assist with major events and Games, including the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) and the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games (MISG).
Requirements:
- Must be willing and available to travel (by car, boat and/or plane) to rural and/or remote communities within Manitoba.
- Must have strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be proficient with office technology, specifically MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.
- Must have a grade 12 diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 full Manitoba driver's license.
- Must have excellent time management skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Education in recreation management, education, sport, social work, or a related field is preferred; relevant volunteer or work experience is also considered an asset.
- A comprehensive understanding of, or a willingness to learn about, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in Manitoba is desirable.
- Familiarity with diverse socio-economic backgrounds is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Manitoba amateur sport system, including coaching and officiating, is beneficial.
- Proven experience in project coordination and relationship management is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement recreation programs, community planning, or sports initiatives is desirable.
